Homecoming week at Joliet Central concluded with a gymnasium full of blue and gold at the annual homecoming assembly. The assembly consisted of dancing, class competitions, all fall student athletes, and the announcement of the 2012 homecoming court. This year’s homecoming royalty were King Chance Paluga and Queen Estefani Gonzalez. Seniors that won court were Taylor Coleman, Gian Villagomez, Emily Patino, and Travion Sherman. Junior court winners were Erin Menegon and Drake Bernhard. Yocelin Balcazar and Jesus Sandoval were the winners for sophomore court. Freshmen court went to Mayra Pizarro and Daniel Rodriguez.
This year, the seniors were victorious over the juniors in the annual Powderpuff game, which took place on September 26. Even though the juniors didn’t win the Powderpuff game this year, they did win the annual “battle of the classes” competition at the assembly. This year, the competition was tug of war. After the sophomores and seniors were eliminated, the competition came down to the fierce battle between the freshmen and the juniors, leaving the juniors the superior grade level.
Every fall sport recognized their seniors at the assembly, and their season’s accomplishments. The poms team, cheerleading squad, and the Dude Squad also gave energetic and well-rehearsed routines for the student body. Everyone in the gymnasium enjoyed listening to the band play and was inspired by the athletes and groups who participated in the assembly this year. Their performances had the students and staff jumping out of their seats, it seemed like almost everyone had a good time. The staff was proud of all the students for applauding and being respectful while the sports and groups were performing at the assembly. This year’s assembly definitely accomplished what was intended, which was to showcase our school spirit at Joliet Central and have a good time while doing so.
