On Saturday, November 29th, the 2014 Santa Run & Stroll took place. For those who do not know, the Santa Run is an all-day event that is open to everyone, especially to families and their strollers. The event was organized by Central’s very own Key Club, it gave people the option to choose between the 5k run and the mile stroll. All prices of entry fees depended on the age of each adult and child. If you were eighteen or older, the entry fee was twenty five dollars. It was fifteen dollars for students, and ten dollars per child, which ranged from ages five through twelve, and children who age four and under entered free. The entrance fee was to help raise money for the school district. The Santa Run & Stroll started at 9 a.m., and was not a timed event. The 5k run and mile stroll course began at Central’s campus, continued throughout the city, and ended with a party at Central’s gymnasium. Everyone had a lot of fun, and perhaps the most fun was the reason behind it being called a Santa Run. This is because Santa suits were worn by participants while running or walking the course. All participants who were registered received a 5-piece Santa suit, which included a hat, beard, jacket, pants, and a belt. There were also people dressed as helpful elves who also guided people throughout the course. Over 400 participated as Santa’s in the 2014 Santa Run & Stroll. This event raised around $12,000 dollars before expenses, with the outcome of the net revenue for the event estimated around approximately $4,000. All profits went toward the JTHS Foundation, students, and programs of JTHS District 204.
