Mr. and Ms. J is a title of tradition that has been awarded to Joliet’s most intelligent students since 1958. Seniors that have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA over eight semesters qualify to compete for the award, and enter the selection process, run by a board of faculty members. Twenty Mr. and Ms. J finalists are interviewed, and chosen based on presentation of themselves, community service, and involvement with Joliet and their school. Ms. Bowers hosts the event, where finalists and their parents are invited to a formal dinner at Jacob Henry Mansion. Ms. Bowers states, “I am so proud of each student. They all worked hard and should be proud of themselves as well.” The winners this year were Danny Valdavinos and Anjae Holder. Upon being interviewed, the winners listed their outstanding achievements and activities, all while being able to uphold a level of excellence in their academics. Both winners aspire to attend college after this year and paving the way for a bright future.
The JTC Journal would also like to congratulate the first and second runners up for Ms. J, Rene Smith and Alyssa Mikula, and the first and second runners up for Mr. J, Jarais Musgrove and Andrew Matichak.
