The 2015-2016 National Hockey League season has started and the Chicago Blackhawks are coming in as the defending Stanley Cup Champions. The Hawks had a great season last year, and they’re looking to do the same thing this season. Coming into the new season, the Blackhawks have acquired some new players and had to let go of a few as well. The new players include: Viktor Tikhonov, Artemi Panarin, Brandon Mashinter, Tanner Kero, Ryan Garbutt, Marko Dano, Trevor Daley, and Artem Anisimov. The current Blackhawks record is 13-8-3, standing in 3rd place. One of the best Blackhawks players, Patrick Kane, has just made history on November 28, 2015 in the game vs the L.A Kings. Kane has scored another point in his 19th consecutive game. This record passes Phil Kessel’s streak and beats Blackhawks T.V analyst Eddie Olczyk’s streak for longest scoring streak set by an American born player. Patrick Kane also leads the team in most assists (23), and most goals made (14). This early into the season and by how the Hawks are playing, they are looking very good. Artemi Panarin, a rookie that has agreed to a 2 year contract with the Blackhawks is a “front runner” for the Calder Memorial Trophy. He leads the rookies in assists, primary assists, and power-play points. Teammates speak very highly of him calling him very skilled and a great team player. The Blackhawks are off to a good start and surely a team to watch this year as they try and repeat the last season by winning the Stanley Cup Championship. In total, the Blackhawks have won six Stanley Cup Championships. They have won three Stanley Cup Champions in six years with good team, teamwork, and heart the Blackhawks find a way to win. Head Coach Joel Quenneville says he’s looking forward to what the new season has for the team.
