This school year, the JTHS orchestra is celebrating their 110th year at Joliet Central High School. This orchestra has been up and at it, playing music since 1905.

Now let’s fast forward about … 110 years to Wednesday, January 27th.

On this date, their winter concert took place in the auditorium. Celebrating this anniversary, there were specially made commemorative programs that were handed out to the audience members as they entered the auditorium. A picture of the orchestra in 1905 is placed on the cover of the program. Flipping through program, you’ll see the pieces and orchestras that preformed, also the history of JTHS’ Orchestra and directors, and the story behind the commissioned piece, Stone and Steel by Richard Meyer. Stone and Steel’s World Premiere was performed by the String Orchestra.

On the same day of the concert, the Student Center finally opened its doors. The ceremony took place in the new cafeteria. The JTHS Philharmonia opened by preforming The Star Spangled Banner and JT Alma Mater. After performing, everyone got in their places on stage ready for their next performance. OPA (Orchestra Parent Association) showered Lipari with gifts.

One last thing, Happy 110th anniversary to the JTHS Orchestras!
