Violent night review

Zachary Jenkins

Throughout its existence, Christmas has been considered a wonderful time when families can celebrate and allow Santa to gift their children the presents they desire. Now take that knowledge and throw it out cause Violent Night has one spin on not only saint Nick but also Christmas itself. The movie shines has ultimately a fun spoof on the holiday and it’s all the better for it, for starters, David Harbour of Stranger Things and Marvel fame stars as Santa Claus himself and doesn’t disappoint if you wanted to see the fat Jolly man himself take a couple hired goons out in very graphic Christmassy fashion. The story follows an estranged couple and their daughter Gertrude “Trudy” Lightstone where they met with the father’s mother, sister, her boyfriend, and their son for Christmas. The Holiday season isn’t kind to the Lightstone family getting to the point all Trudy’s dad can get her for not seeing Santa is an old walkie-talkie that can “talk to Santa’.  Meanwhile, at the estate, the family is staying a gang of mercenaries appears and holds them hostage with them being led by “Mr. Scrooge” played by John Leguizamo as the mansion is overrun with them. Yet little do they know Santa is coming to pay a visit and after seeing Trudy is on his nice list decides to help spread a different kind of Christmas cheer. The film is truly best described as an R-rated home alone but instead of a kid it’s Santa taking back the house and that’s barely a hint of what kind of things happen in this movie. So if you are in the need of some more bloodshed and guns-blazing and less elf and Rudolph for the holiday season, Violent Night is the movie that’s gonna satisfy that urge and than some.
