It’s mental health awareness month, Steelmen! This month acknowledges individuals
living with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. Many
dealing with any mental disorder might feel as though they may have no one and
are afraid to speak out. What we all don’t realize is many of us are fighting
the same battles. No illness, no matter how small it may seem, is a joke or not
a big deal. Many don’t realize the options provided to get help or just to talk
about it. Talking helps, believe it or not. One of the causes of depression is
bottling your emotions. Bottling your emotions and feelings will not solve
anything. Speaking up about what’s going on is a healthy way to express
yourself, writing and exercising also help. I personally dealt with depression
and for the longest time I completely wrote it off and denied it to myself.
These disorders have more effect on us then realized, especially teenagers.
Don’t deny it to yourself and don’t go unheard. Trying to deal with what you’re
going through and helping yourself isn’t “weird” and doesn’t make you “crazy.”
My dream is to major in psychology and help anyone going through any difficult
time in life. With the right support from yourself, family and friends
overcoming this battle will come easy to you.
