Girls Basketball

For the past few years, the Joliet Central girls’ basketball team was growing with young players to lead up to the year they would finally be seniors. Well, that season is now. The 2015-2016 season is the year that eight out of twelve players would be seniors. The varsity squad is led by senior team captains, Ashley Hare, Monica Barefield, Morgan Jones, and Talia Franchini. Beside the four senior captains, there is also seniors Montgomery Armstrong, Brianna Falk, Miya Crosby, and Chantell Mack. The girls have grown together, and have 2 or more years of varsity experience. With varsity experience, the girls are expected to demonstrate leadership skills. Beside the coaches coaching, the seniors are able to teach and push themselves to be even better. The seniors are looking forward to be even better season than last year with the help of 4 new junior members. Last year, the girls ended their season with a 6-7 record in conference, having the best record of Joliet Central’s history since Joliet Central and Joliet West split. The girls are striving for a more successful record this season by working very hard at practice and in the classroom. One accomplishment of this season was receiving second place consolation at the Oswego East Holiday tournament. The practices this season are designed to be hard, so that when they go out to play in a game they are not tired and are full of energy. Head Coach Brian Reed says “They are older, now. We have more experience this year and so much talent. This is the nicest bunch of girls I’ve ever coached and I want it bad for them. They deserve this. So why not them? Bolingbrook did it last year with senior leadership. Eight of our 12 are seniors and they’re realizing that this is the final stretch, so they’ve got the mindset that they’re going to work hard and play for each other, and they’ve been really good the last couple of games.” The seniors have made a huge impact on the basketball program and people throughout the school and community. As they move on to college next year, they will always have the memories of high school basketball forever in their hearts. The amount of tears, hard work, blood, pain, soreness, and effort was worth it
