‘’Irish’’Mickey Ward was born on October 4, 1965 and is known for being a professional boxer. His record was 38-13 before he retired.
Ward was a three time New England golden gloves boxer and turned pro in 1985.I think he was an excellent boxer who started out with nothing and achieved so much. In 1990 ward had took a hiatus. Ward had hurt his hand, and took a roadside job to pay for surgery. While ward was doing that his half brother, and former boxer Dicky Eklund was just getting out of jail, on charges of drug possession. Ekland would then motivate ward to run right into the boxing league.
Ward was successful in his return winning his 8 first fights. Mickey would then face his biggest competition ever Arturo Gatti. After 4 straight fights with him, Mickey won a majority of them. In 2010 Mark Wahlberg starred in the movie ‘The Fighter’. The movie was a hit. It really explained his story and what he had to go through. If you haven’t seen this movie I suggest you do, because it is amazing. Before I saw this, I had no idea who he was. Now I can tell everyone who he is. If you want more info, look up a book about him at your local library.
