Notre Dame
The only significant loss on offense would be Michael Floyd but, The slack in the passing game will more than likely be taken up by All-American Tight End Tyler Eifert and Sophomore QB Everett Golson will undoubtedly lead what should be Fighting Irish offense. Coach Brian Kelly has an offensive mind and will be working with a wealth of experience at QB, RB, WR and TE. Along with All-American TE Tyler Eifert, All-American LB Manti Te’o have decided to stay for their Senior years. Notre Dame started their year in style with a 50-10 trouncing of The Naval Academy in Dublin, Ireland. Notre Dame will face Purdue back in South Bend, Indiana.
Northern Illinois
In 2011, the Northern Illinois Huskies depended on an experienced offense, led by then senior QB Chandler Harnish, to win the MAC title. this year it’ll be the defense that will need to shoulder the weight now that Harnish and his many offensive playmakers have moved on from college. Although for a young team behind junior QB Jordan Lynch and a stout NIU defense they played an extremely close game against Big 10 foe Iowa at Soldier Field ending 18-17 in the final moments. NIU will face FCS opponent Tennessee-Martin in their home opener.
University of Illinois
The now (1-0) Fighting Illini will head out west to face Pac-12 foe Arizona State (1-0) Saturday night in Tempe, Arizona. The previous meeting between the two teams lead to Illinois nail biting 17-14 victory over the Sun Devils last season at Memorial Stadium. Illinois opened this season with a convincing 24-7 victory over Western Michigan last Saturday giving new Illini head coach Tim Beckman his first victory at the helm of the Fighting Illini.
Northwestern
Northwestern played a shootout against Syracuse last Saturday. Junior Mark Garners made a huge impact on the Wildcats special teams. Syracuse would go on to give Garners 134 yards in returning a new Northwestern school record. The Wildcats would go on to win in the final moments over the Orange 42-41. Northwestern will face SEC foe Vanderbilt this Saturday night.
