There are two teams that you have to try out to be a part of, and those are Varsity and Junior Varsity Poms. Varsity Poms is directed by Coach Troc and Junior Varsity is directed by Coach Albright. Jackie Fiday and Molly Woodward are the poms captains, they are also the only seniors on varsity poms this year. The purpose of the Central Steel Poms squad is to promote and uphold school spirit. The prom team inspires enthusiasm and pride, to develop a sense of good sportsmanship among students, to improve relationships between various schools during all athletic events, to improve techniques through practice, clinics, and performances and to compete in competitions. Joliet Central Poms performs at both basketball and football games and at most school assemblies. The pom teams perform for our audience to enjoy.
Joliet Central Poms will hold a Kiddie Camp on Monday, February 10, 2014 for grade levels kindergarten thru 8th grade. Poms puts on a great kiddie camp each year, after the camp students have the opportunity show off what the Central teams have taught them. They perform on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. The 4-8 year olds perform at halftime of the sophomore basketball game and the 9-13 year olds perform at the varsity basketball game.
The poms team considered a dance program rather than an additional cheerleading team. Joliet Central’s poms encourages our sport players to do their best during their game no matter the outcome. The teams practice all year round to get ready for their competitions and games. Being part of the poms team is a big commitment, it takes a lot of time and determination and hard work.
