Race For Awareness

West Chicago invitational was hosted by West Chicago HS. The Race for Awareness was at the Kress Creek Farm. The teams that were there included Joliet West, Joliet Central, Glenbard North, Streamwood, and West Chicago.

It was a success for us as varsity took 1st as a team with a team score of 35. Geneva took 2nd place with a score of 51, St. Francis took 3rd with a score of 80, Glenbard North took 4th with a score of 87, and finally West Chicago took 5th with a score of 121.

Raul Rosendo of Joliet Central took 1st place with a time of 16:06 for 3.1 miles. In 2nd place was Danny McComb of West Chicago with a time of 16:14. In 3rd place was Andre Martinez of Joliet Central with a time of 16:32. Recognize the following varsity runners: David Carter for taking 5th with a time of 16:37, Oscar Tejeda taking 10th with a time of 17:01, Ben Hallihan taking 17th with a time of 17:24, and Francisco Saenz taking 21st with a time of 17:37. Special shout out to Vicente Moreno for coming back after weeks of recovering from an injury and still doing an excellent job taking 16th with a time of 17:20.

The Varsity girls cross country team also did an excellent job as they took 3rd as a team with a score of 65. Coming in 1st overall was Geneva with a score of 28 and in 2nd place was Glenbard North with a score of 60. In 4th place was West Chicago with a score of 105. Finally, coming in 5th place was St. Francis with a score of 114.

                Coming in first for the Varsity girls race was Emma Ehrhardt from Geneva with a time of 19:14 in 3.1 miles. 2nd place coming from Glenbard North was Alexia Trasha with a time of 20:08. Also from Geneva was Madeleine Nowak coming in with a time 20:14 taking 3rd place. As for Joliet Central, Laisha Corona took 8th as the first Joliet Central girls Varsity runner to pass the finish line with a time of 20:53. 2nd place for Joliet Central was her sister Sheila Corona, taking 11 place overall with a time of 21:01. Behind Sheila was Andrea Gonzalez taking 13th with a time of 21:11. Congratulations s to them for running a good race.
