The movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was a beautiful tribute to the book. It was jam packed with details that made it visually stimulating. This movie is just the first in a trilogy and is the prequel to the very successful Lord of the Rings trilogy. Thankfully, the movie was directed by Peter Jackson who was also the director of all three Lord of the Rings movies. This kept the same feel for the movie that was present in his previous movies. Some may say that it was dry and too detail oriented, but that’s not the case. Without such attention to detail no one would know anything about what was going on. Also the actors that were chosen to play Bilbo and the dwarves did an amazing job at showing the characters different personalities. In addition, many of the actors that were in Lord of the Rings made appearances in The Hobbit like Elrond of Rivendell, Galadriel, Sarumon, and most prominently Gandalf the Gray. There were however, a few parts in the movie that were not even in the book which for most people who have read The Hobbit was a bit upsetting. Also, the graphics used to make the goblins were obviously computer generated, making it look more cartoonish than real. This was unlike the goblins in the Lord of the Rings who were real actors with a very good make-up job and made the action look much more real. However, this movie was very good all in all and I suggest it to all whom enjoy good quality fantasy.
