This year’s 2015 Spring Assembly was something different. This was the first time the JROTC program was recognized with its clubs Color Guard, Drill, Exhibition, Raider, and Rifle teams. The spring sports included in the assembly were boys’ baseball and volleyball. Boys track also broke 3 indoor records. There was also girls’ soccer, softball, and track, who broke 5 indoor records. There’s also badminton, who a few weeks ago, beat Joliet West. Before the clubs were presented, the school band also played “Happy” by Pharrel.
Clubs being acknowledged this spring were Brother to Brother, Hot Rodders, Scholastic Bowl, NHS Male Poms, Speech Team who placed third in their competition, Dave Christiansen Powerlifters, LHH, Special Olympians who came in third place for their competition, and French Club.
The Dude Squad also performed to songs such as Beyonce’s “7/11”, Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda”, and Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” and somewhere in their routine, Kanye West’s infamous 2009 VMA incident was heard.
The class competition this time was a pie eating contest. First round was the freshman versus the sophomores and the freshman won. Second round, the juniors went up against the seniors who won. The final round was freshmen up against seniors who ultimately won. In between the competitions, student council thanked Principle Randich for all his support and 31 years of hard work. And as usual, the seniors were recognized for the sports and clubs they participated in, because it’s their last year at Central.
