When I went to go see The Hunger Games I was practically on
the edge of my seat waiting for the movie to start. I believe my excitement for
the movie came from the fact that I have read the book. There were a lot of
things I loved about the movie, and only a few that I disliked.
To start, throughout the movie I knew everything that was going on. I knew the
thoughts the main character, Katniss, was having and all the symbolic points of
the movie, but the only reason I knew this was because I read the book. I
honestly think this was a huge downfall to the movie itself. If I were to not
have to read the book, I could totally picture myself walking in there watching
this movie, thinking that it was not as good as I had anticipated. I think they
definitely should have described how her dad loved mocking jays, and went a
little further into its symbolism. Also, I wish they would have described her
family’s background a little more, so that the audience would know exactly what
was going on. I think the movie was purely based on the games, and I think kids
would get so much more out of the book.
Now, outside of all the downfalls there were some really strong points. Not to sound
cruel or anything, but I thought the reaping scene was phenomenal. You have all
of these kids, and it was great to actually see the horror that struck across
Prims face when she was called. I think the best part was seeing Katniss
volunteer. Throughout the movie Katniss
was kind of showing the capitol up, and one of these times was when she put an
arrow right through the apple in the pig’s mouth. I thought this was wonderful,
because not only did it show her skills, but it put a spin on her personality
making her look like she was ready to win. Another part that I absolutely loved
was the death ceremony that Katniss held for Rue. That was probably my favorite
part, along with the fact that Rue’s male partner totally saved Katniss’ life
in honor of Rue. Although I could go on
for days telling you about all the parts I love, I think these are probably by
far my favorite. Overall I thought the movie could have been better though.
