The Lumineers is an American folk-rock band who’s first self-titled album, The Lumineers, was released in 2012. The album mixes traditional folk music with a soft, modern rock twist. Fans of Walk The Moon, Mumford & Sons, Grouplove, Imagine Dragons, and Of Monsters & Men will flock to The Lumineers. They have been featured on VH1 as a You Oughta Know artist and their popular song “Ho Hey” is bringing a refreshing change to the radio. Imagine a fun night on the town with your best friends, and put that onto a CD. You’ll be singing along in no time.
The album The Lumineers definitely has an old-time feel, so much that listeners feel like they’re back in the 1930’s, stomping along with the band. Songs that stand out on the track list are “Flowers In Your Hair”, “Dead Sea”, “Charlie Boy”, and “Stubborn Love.” Of course, “Ho Hey” is destined to be the highlight of the album, with just three acoustic chords and a simple melody, accompanied by crowd participation. Everywhere you turn this song is being played on movie trailers, radios, and in commercials. Perhaps the catchiness of this sing-along song is what made it shoot up the charts more than the rest of the album. “Slow It Down” brings a bit of a darker shade to the band’s otherwise energetic personality. It’s completely unedited, and sounds a bit more haunted than one would expect. It displays only lead singer Wesley Schultz’s vocals, full of emotion and pain, and a slow acoustic guitar. The only other slow song on the album is “Morning Song”, but it almost pales in comparison to “Slow It Down.”
In conclusion, this album is definitely worth your money. If you’re a fan of acoustic or even alternative music, this will bring a refreshing change to your playlist.
