On December 5th, the 2015 nominees for the 57th annual Grammy awards were announced. The list included musicians ranging from relative unknowns to some of the world’s top-earning superstars. Nominees include “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea Ft. Charlie XCX, “Chandelier” by Sia, “Shake it off” by Taylor Swift, “Stay With Me” (Dark Child Version) by Sam Smith, and “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor. These superstars seem to be the favorites as it was known to be the “Top 5 hits”. Sheeran’s own “X” got a nod for Best Pop Vocal Album and Pharrell’s G I R L got a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Other popular nominees range from Nathan East, also known as Bass Great, a Crawford high and UC San Diego alum, to sitar star Anoushka Shankar and Wu Man, who plays the Pipa, a lute like Chinese instrument. Most people who watched the Grammy’s before always cheer for the nominees in celebration, however, some fans may not know what it really takes, and the hardships the stars have to face and eligibility requirements. Eligibility and an ample amount of fans is a major role in order to receive nomination at the Grammy’s. You must also have songs or albums released by the end of September of the year before the Grammy is presented.

The Grammy’s will be taking place on February 8th, 2015. As of right now a host has not been announced. In all, 83 awards will be presented, one more than in 2014. However, not all Grammy’s will be presented during the live telecast. As in previous years, most awards will be handed out during the so-called “pre-telecast ceremony”, held at the Nokia Theater next to the Staples Center, which takes place during the afternoon before the main show. As of 2015, this ceremony will be known as the “Premiere Ceremony”. Approximately 70 Grammy’s will be presented at this ceremony. In any case, this year’s 2015 Grammy Awards is certainly something to look forward to and seems to get better and better as always. So make sure you get a comfortable seat and tune in on February 8th on CBS and enjoy the stunning show.
