The Martian is a 2015 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott, known for his critically acclaimed movie franchise, Alien and Blade Runner. The movie is based on the 2011 novel The Martian, which was written by Andy Weir. The film stars Matt Damon known for Good Will Hunting, and Captain America’s Sebastian Stan, rapper Donald Glover, known as “Childish Gambino” from the sitcom Community, and Kate Mara who recently starred in the Fantastic Four reboot.  The movie centers on astronaut and botanist Mark Watney (Damon) who is part of the Ares 3, the third manned mission to Mars as he is left behind on Mars after being presumed dead by his space crew. But after discovering he’s not dead, his crew and the NASA director of Mars missions Vincent Kapoor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), figure how to get him back home.

The film is being called one of the most realistic and scientifically accurate sci-fi movie out right now, or possibly of all time. Though most of it is accurate, some things had to be exaggerated in order to look cool. The special effects looked very realistic. The movie has some humor in it as well. I can also say that this film focuses on one thing throughout the whole movie; ambition, as seen in Watney, he goes through a lot to stay alive and he comes across some obstacles and gets back up. Overall, this is an enjoyable and entertaining movie.

The movie came out October 2nd and is rated PG-13. Check it out!
