Wolfy Halloween

Georgianna Majerus

It was supposed to be a normal Halloween, with trick or treating, costumes, candy apples, and all that great Halloween stuff. However, it was not normal at all. It all started a few days before Halloween. It was a crisp day, the cool wind blowing with orange and red leaves flying. My friend and I were walking home from school because it had been a long day sitting at a desk for hours, so we decided to go over by the park and meet some friends to play a game of basketball. It was a close game, my team winning of course. It was pretty dark by the time we were done. Since me and my friend live close to each other we walked home together. We were a few blocks away from my house, when we heard a low growling sound. We both stopped and looked around. It was dark so it was hard to see. We assumed it was our neighbor’s dog, so we kept walking. Then, we heard it again. A low, deep growling but this time it was closer. Then we heard running and the dog got closer and closer. We ran as fast we could but the dog caught up to us. It lunged at my friend, I pushed my friend out of the way and took the hit. The dog thrashed and bit me on the arm. Other than that I was okay because my friend helped me. I don’t think he saw me get beat up by what I thought was a freakishly huge dog. When I got home I felt extremely tired, my mom and dad weren’t home yet, just my sister and my little brother. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and I saw where the huge dog had bit me. You could see the teeth marks and it was red all around it. I washed the bite a little bit and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning I had a strong craving for meat. I went downstairs and went into the fridge and ate all the meat that was in there. I went into the bathroom to look at my bite. I looked in the mirror and saw that I had grown more hair on my arms and my hair was longer too. I was a little concerned but I was gonna be late for the bus. On the way to school I couldn’t stop rubbing my hair. When I got to school I went to my friend and asked him if I looked any different. He looked at my hair.

“Did you get a haircut?”

“No you dummy! Ever since I got bit by that dog I’ve been growing hair.”

“Bro don’t sweat it, you’ll be fine.” I believed him for a little while

At the gym we did the mile run and my time was 3 seconds. I was also gaining so much strength. Every time I would close my locker I put a huge dent in it, and I could not stop itching my ear. When I finally got home I ate all the meat I could find and looked in the mirror again. I had grown hair on my face and on my hands and arms. In the evening I was sitting in my bedroom doing my homework. I heard a dog howl, something came over me and I howled like an actual wolf! I didn’t hold anything back for the next five minutes. Luckily no one was home but the neighbors must have thought I was crazy! I was so confused I didn’t know what to do, so I went to the library to research. It was pretty late but the old librarian (she looked as old as my missing assignments in class…which is super old). I looked all through the library everywhere and I found nothing. So I did the one thing that I didn’t want to do, I walked up to the old librarian and shyly asked her my question.

“Miss…um…do you know where the books are about rapidly growing hair, howling, getting stronger and faster?”

She looked at me blankly and suddenly her face got white and I got really worried.

“Have you been bitten lately by some umm, big and hairy doggish looking thing?”  My heart skipped a beat, I nodded slowly. The librarian shook her head and told me an ancient story of when a werewolf bit a human the human would start growing hair rapidly, getting stronger and faster, and craving meat. She said the next full moon is when the full transformation would form where all you want to do is be incredibly aggressive and bite as many people as possible. The only way to stop it to prove you aren’t a mean werewolf is to do something kind for someone you love. I was surprised, that’s it, all I gotta do is do something nice for someone? But during the next few days I found it harder to be nice, my temper was getting shorter and so was patience. The howling would not stop every night whenever a dog would bark or howl I would look up at the sky and let out a long howl. By Halloween night I had to get away. I ran out of my house and into the woods. I stopped at the river’s edge and looked down at my reflection. At first I saw myself before the bite, nice, mature just me. Then I looked at who I was now, mean, hairy, rude. It made me angry. I yelled and threw rocks I didn’t even think I could pick up. Then I heard someone coming,

“Dude, where are you? It’s Halloween, we have plans!”

“Yeah come on!” It was my friends we had planned on dressing up and going to the Halloween party this really pretty girl and her friends were hosting. I turned around and saw them. I felt the moon staring at me, it was full.

“Get out of here!” I yelled it was too late. My body shook, I crumpled to the ground and my clothes ripped. All I saw was red. I howled and growled and ran at them. They ran away. As I got closer to town I saw so many people. I ran fighting my urge to bite. Next thing I knew I was in front of her house. The girl I liked since first grade. There were people outside everywhere. I lunged at them but before I could get close to them, another werewolf came out of nowhere and started scaring all the people there. Everyone ran away but my girl was trapped and corned by the werewolf. I felt a rush of anger and hatred with thinking, I ran at the werewolf and slashed him and got him away from her. I used all my strength to fight him. He was strong but I was stronger and more determined. Finally I shoved him to the ground and growled the meanest growl I could muster and he ran off. The girl, my girl, looked at me and she looked scared. I looked back at her and she smiled and remembered me. She ran up and hugged me. Suddenly I felt all of my strength leave my body. My knees locked and I fell. I was bleeding and bruised. The girl hugged me tighter and kissed me on the forehead. I got the same feeling as before and my body shook, I saw my hands get smaller and my teeth getting less razor sharp. I looked up at the girl and she smiled and I looked at myself. I was normal, I had saved her. I did something kind for someone I loved.
