Much like all of the other Hunger Games films, they are based on writer Suzanne Collins’s books, and her books are adapted into movie form. This film follows the dictator, President Snow, in his early years and the plot of the 10th Hunger Games. On Reaping Day, Snow and other classmates from the academy are competing for the Plinth Prize money. However, they put a twist on how to earn money that year.
Whoever trains the best tribute will be awarded the prize money, and with Snow and his family tired of trying to make due, he is very determined to win. It seems as if all hope is lost when he gets the “runt” girl from one of the poorest districts, District 12, Lucy Gray Baird, who proceeds to sing on stage, a bold move for someone about to be put in an arena to fight to the death.
This story goes into the history of Panem within the first ten years of The Hunger Games, the game makers, and how it all started. It shows the perspective of someone who you’d never expect. The birth of what made Snow the ruthless dictator is shown in the first books and movies. Introduces you to someone important in his life and a lovable character that you root for, Lucy Gray Baird, who not only has the voice of an angel, but a heart of gold to go with it.
The movie contains a lot of action and has you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what decisions will be made next. Just remember not to root for the enemy, it is straightforward to get lost within this plethora of plots.
