Frank Corvin (Clint Eastwood), Hawk Hawkins (Tommy Lee Jones), Tank Sullivan (James Garner), and Jerry O’ Neil (Donald Sutherland) are all old airforce test pilots who, in 1958, could have had the chance to go to the moon, but Bob Gerson (James Cromwell) ruined their chances, and so Team Daedalus did not go to the moon. Years later, one of the satellites that Frank gave the prints for is now years later crashing down to earth.
Now that these men are old, they won’t have much time left and since Frank’s team is the only one to know how to work the satellite, Bob has no choice but to give them their shot.
This isn’t supposed to be a movie to take seriously or something to write home about– this is just a good time family movie about some classic actors making one last stab at a fun movie. Clint and everyone do such a good job at the delivery of jokes in this film, and also when this film needs to be serious, they fit the bill.
Clint directs the film and does a great job with all the aerial shots of planes and the ships taking off as well as getting the NASA testing scenes shot perfectly of all the actors and Clint going through the tests. Lastly, the theme of this movie is that you’re never too old to see your dream come true but when it does, do you accept it? Or run away?
Tommy and Clint truly give a great story of two true best friends who just had a falling out when one did not agree with the other, and at the age of 65, they were acting like 18 year old kids. When they see each other again, it’s a fun time with great jokes and decent acting. I give the movie an overall rating of 7.8, with 7.7 silver bars for acting, 8.5 silver bars for directing, and 4 rubber chickens for comedy. I will see you the next time you want to come back to the movies.
