Buck Russell is a man in between jobs and is juggling his personal life with also his love life. When his brother Bob (Garret M. Brown) and his wife Cindy (Elaine Bromka) have to go and see her dad because he had a heart attack. The bottom of the barrel of people Cindy would want watching her kids is Buck. Now Buck is watching their three kids Miles (Macaulay Culkin), Maizy (Gaby Hoffman), and Tia (Jean Lousia Kelly). Buck has his work cut out for him, and he is now going to learn how to become a responsible adult.
This is John Candy’s best movie, he truly shows comedy skills along with how talented he is as a serious actor. When Hughes is writing a script for a movie, you’re usually in for a good time of a movie about real people. John gives a real human touch to a character that is only excited on paper, till Candy comes along to play the character.
The movie is a very real, good look on how families are. Kids are always going to challenge their families, especially when there is a child in your family that wants to grow up faster than they should. It’s heartfelt, funny and has a lot of spirit. The acting is great. Candy is already the show stopper, but when he has scenes with the kids, that is when he really shines. Hughes just has a talent to write and direct, especially when it comes to directing John Candy, because Candy is always placed at a certain angle to see that twinkle in his eyes. His directing gives the movie a familiar, cozy sense to the film, almost as if you have seen this movie before.
The script is great, especially the conflict between Buck and Tia since she is trying to find herself as a woman. All Buck is trying to do is make sure she is going down the right path and that she is safe.
To everyone, this is my final movie review. I have had a great time doing this and I thank everyone for reading my reviews.
