In this 2005 American horror/action film, it stars Rachel McAdams, who plays Lisa Reisert, and Cillian Murphy, who plays Jackson Rippner. It was directed by Wes Craven and written by Carl Ellsworth and Dan Foos. Young woman Lisa Reisert, who is a hotel manager, goes to the airport to fly back to her home in Miami after she attended her grandmother’s wake. In the airport, she meets sweet trouble Jack Rippner. He pulls her attention and attraction as they create small talk in the airport lobby. When they get on the plane it is to Lisa’s surprise that she gets seated next to this charming man on the plane and at first she is okay with it since she believes she likes him. But after a while, Lisa learns it was all a set up and this charming appearing man is trouble. His goal was to assassinate the Secretary of Homeland Security who would be staying at the hotel in Miami that Lisa manages, what a surprise. Jack threatens Lisa to call the hotel and change the secretary’s hotel room to a target room, easy to assassinate. If she disobeyed his command, Lisa’s father at home, played by Brian Cox, would be in high risk of being killed by one of Jack’s men. Of course this wouldn’t be an action film without the lead woman putting up a fight so obviously she refuses and tricks him in many ways, even trying to alert people by writing messages in the bathroom with soap. As the fight goes on off the plane when they land, you must watch to see the end! Will the official get killed like Jack’s plan? Will Lisa’s dad still be at risk? You may wonder why this movie is called Red Eye, but hence the name, it is because on airplane flights people’s eyes can get really red due to fatigue and such. This film is full of a ton of suspense and action but not too graphic since it is PG 13.
“Red Eye” is definitely full of tons of action and horrific events but it is comedic in a way based on the way Jack and Lisa react and fight. The way he chases her around and the way they have to secretly fight and negotiate while on the plane makes it suspenseful but also comedic. Lisa risks her life and her job just because of this terrorist who she got fooled by, which really ties this film all together. The acting in it was really great and I like the way the action aspect of this is really interesting and it takes place through multiple settings such as the lobby, the plane, bathrooms, etc. This film was only around an hour and 30 minutes long so it was at the perfect speed that displayed all the events and action but didn’t drag it on too much. This film may be boring to older adults since some scenes don’t show as much graphic and gore that it could have but it is perfect for high school age kids! I give this film a 4 out of 5 stars because I thought the film was packed with a lot of events and twists that just kept coming and coming as I got through it. The actors did a phenomenal job and they portrayed their roles very well. I hope this review helped you!
