Released in 2022 on the album “Siblings” made by The Simps (Eydress and zzzahara), an indie pop band originated in Los Angeles, this song “Cinderella’s daughter” is a perfect way of describing love and admiration. The song describes a deep love and affection for someone, most likely a past girlfriend. It emphasizes how important this person is to the singer based on the word choices such as the lyrics, “You’re the only one that can make me feel the way that I do,” showing the deep feelings and love the singer has for this person. It describes how even though the distance between the two may be far metaphorically, the singer still appreciates and thinks about this person often and still has deep affection towards them. It portrays a meaning of nostalgia and affection due to the tone of the song and the word choices since the singer portrays how this person brings them so much joy despite separation. It is a much slower song and not intense at all, it is actually fairly calm. This song has been out for around 3 years but it is popular currently on apps like TikTok as you see mainly teenagers posting to this song and ones similar to it. It can be a very relatable song since it is about loving someone so deeply with how happy they make you and then the separation happening, which happens with young growing teenagers due to the heartbreaks and relationships many experience at a young age.
The singer’s voices are very soft which helps portray the loving and deep meaning due to the calm tone since of course it would be hard to tell if a song was about affection if the singer was screaming and crying. The singers in this band are solo artists Eyedress and zzzahara, as stated before. The two met in 2018 when zzzahara (Zahara Jaime) went to an Eyedress concert and met the singer (Idris Ennolandy Vicuña) after the concert. They began to become friends and Zahara became a part of Eyedress’s band in some concerts just as a background guitarist. They began making music together under the name “The Simps” because all of the music they wrote, sounded like simps wrote it due to the yearning and sappy love songs such as “Cinderella’s Daughter”. After only a few years the band didn’t really work out and they wanted to go separate ways as a mutual agreement so the only album they ever made together was “Siblings” with all the simp-type yearning filled lyrics. All of their songs including the one talked about in this review are mainly all very slow and calm with no hard electronic beats or loud noises, just slow music with lyrics full of admiration.
This song is one of my favorites from the band even though they only have 1 album. The way the noises go together and the lyrics are what pull this song together by so much. The lyrics are simple to understand because of the repetition of the chorus and the same lines stating, “Girl I want you to know.” This song is slightly similar to bands and artists like TV Girl, Current Joys. Strawberry Guy, and maybe even Vacations, which are all very popular and mellow filled songs. I really enjoy “Cinderella’s Daughter” and I give it 5 out of 5 stars due to everything from the lyrics to the beats to the deep meaning. I definitely recommend this song to anybody who listens to music like the bands I listed above, especially TV Girl and anybody interested in a sappy love and yearning song.
