Do you like fast cars and rivalry races? If so, watch the 2006 action/crime film “The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift” directed by Justin Lin, and if you don’t like fast cars and rivalry races, still be sure to watch it. Sean Boswell, played by Lucas Black, is a troubled teenager in Arizona who is always found getting in trouble with the law with his racing. He wrecks cars racing and also damages property, as you can imagine. He is a car enthusiast who enjoys racing others, usually to prove a point or win something, as shown in the first 20 minutes of the movie. He seems to be a really good and fast street racer, but so far he hasn’t learned how to drift. After racing a boy from school in a private property area in a 1971 Chevy Monte Carlo and a 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10, over a girl, Sean gets in a lot of trouble and his mother refuses to move again due to his rebellious ways so she puts herself first and makes him move to Japan where his father is, avoiding jail time. After going to a new school in Japan, Sean meets an army brat who leads him to the sport of underground racing. He gets into an encounter with the Drift King, played by Brian Tee, and they set off for a race, which Sean loses and injures the sports car since he doesn’t know how to drift, unlike the Drift King.
After learning how to drift, he beats the Drift King in a race and the plot continues on to get even more entertaining as they keep racing so I recommend you watch it! This movie is full of a ton of action and it is really fun to watch, because of all the cool sports cars they drive. I think the actors do a good job at playing their role and the casting was great. It’s a typical action filled movie by Justin Lin as all of his films are mainly full of suspenseful plots and twists throughout the whole thing. The whole Fast and Furious franchise is very long since there are so many different movies but I would say that Tokyo Drift is the top third best in the franchise, followed up by “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “The Fast and Furious” which I may review in the future.
Watching this movie for the first time was like opening me into a new world. All the sports cars and racing and conflicts were just so enticing to see and Sean Boswell’s acting was magnificent in this film. The plot is just your typical rebellious sports car enthusiast life as it goes from getting in trouble to getting sent away and then getting into even more trouble. Overall, I love everything about this movie and I give it 4 out of 5 stars since it was nice and entertaining but I feel a more in depth plot and twist would’ve helped it reach a 5 star rating since it is like all the other films in the franchise. Some state that this franchise is very repetitive in the plots but all racing movies are gonna be somewhat comparable so I still think it’s worth a watch. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys racing or even just anybody interested in an action and crime filled movie.
