Earth Day: a day to spread awareness and to show appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. Invented by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day originally started in America on April 22, 1970. Later however, Earth Day became a national day of Earth awareness and so far has spread to over 170 nations worldwide!
On Earth Day, people are asked to be aware of human impact on the world and to find earth-friendly alternatives to several problems.
Did you know that recycling one aluminum can could actually save you enough power to run a television for 3 hours?
Only 27% of Americans recycle newspapers regularly. (Now that we have those new recycling cans in Joliet, I’m sure that a lot more of us will be willing to recycle!)
If every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year!
In other words: recycle, recycle, and remember to recycle! It’s cheesy to say this but every day is Earth Day and it doesn’t matter if you believe that humans aren’t really making the major impact on the world that others believe that we are; it is always a good idea to be kind to our planet and you can earn some karma points by doing so!
