As you may or may not know, all incoming freshmen have received these new laptops. All freshmen use their laptops in classes for classwork and homework. These laptops are to be taken home, charged, and brought back to school every day to use during school hours. Some people think these laptops are miracle workers, some think they are garbage.

The new laptops, from my experience that I have had with them, are a mess. The reason I think that is because they are really slow starting up. The laptops have had many issues, every day there would be approximately thirty people outside the help desk doors when we first received them.  Now there aren’t as many, but still a lot of people, and you have to press hard on the keys just so you can make sure it will type. The one thing that is extremely perfect on these computers is the batteries. The battery will stay charged all throughout my school day, and when I come home I can charge it and do the same the next day. The battery is a big help to me.

Some of the features on the computer work really well. For example, the internet is always connected, the drawing feature works phenomenally, and the touch screen is fun. One thing I do enjoy so much is the drawing app on the laptops. Being able to turn the screen on the laptops and fold it down makes it easier and more enjoyable to draw and write.  In class when we are taking notes, almost everyone has their screen folded down like a tablet so they can write with the pens, which makes it so much easier to make sure it is neat and so forth. That is definitely something that these laptops are good for.

To summarize how the laptops perform, I would say that they have some good features but when it comes time to do the work they seem to just give up. They tend to glitch and freeze frequently. These computers frustrate people in class, including myself, sometimes so we eventually just use paper and pencil if a lot of people are having the same problem and the help desk line is full. When I asked my classmates what they thought of the laptops, they all say they are not the best, or worse than their own laptop.
