Every year at the Ivy Night award ceremony, two seniors are honored with Steelman and Steelwoman of the Year. In order to receive this award, an exceptional senior must be nominated by a club or sport. The nominees then have to fill out a resume that were presented anonymously to various club sponsors, who were the judges. The two recipients of the 2013 Steelman and Steelwoman of the Year were Eric Lindstrom and Juana Alvarado. Both of these students shared that they were a bit shocked when it was revealed they had won because there was quite a bit of competition. One of the reasons why Eric and Juana received these titles was because they were so involved with the school and extracurricular activities. A word of advice from Juana: “Get involved and do what you love! My high school experience would not be as memorable if I hadn’t been involved in extracurricular activities.” Juana has big plans after graduating, such as enrolling in Benedictine University as a pre-med major to become a pediatrician. Eric also has plans for a higher education and will be attending the University of St. Francis to minor in Leadership and is undecided about his major. Eric has nothing but fond memories of his years as a Steelman. “I fell in love with this palace of learning and decided I wanted to get the most out of Joliet Central.” Congratulations to Eric, Juana, and the other nominees. We wish the seniors good luck!
