The Joliet Central Speech team has been around for a long time. This years’ Joliet Central Speech team season they have had many highs for their season the first is that they have a very large team. For every tournament the Joliet Central Speech team has gone to, they have placed in the top 6 including two 2^nd places and a 4^th place. Another high is many students have won ribbons or medals at these tournaments. A low for this season is they haven’t won as a team while another one being they can’t have any more people added to their team. This is Mr. Hoyts 4^th year being the head coach of speech team. When Mr. Hoyt first came and was in charge for his first year of coaching he only had one competitor. Now over the short years he has been coaching there are many competitors and they have built the team from complete scratch. Speech team has practices two days of the week from 3:30-6pm, on one of the practice days half the team comes then on the other day the other half of the team comes. Over winter break the Speech Team went to SWSC Varsity tournament and 8 of his competitors placed in the top 6 and those students were An’Tonai Boykin in Occasions Speaking and Informative Speaking, Brennan Schultz and Angelica Jarrett in Humorous Duet acting, Haylie Aeschliman in humorous interpretation, Julie Nettles in extemporaneous speaking, Jared Ellis in Prose and Angelica Jarrett once again, but this time in original comedy. Then as a team they placed 6^th and at Seneca Invitational they placed 2^nd. Their last competition was this past Saturday January 17^th Now, they have 3 more invitational’s, then they go on to compete at Regionals with a goal to go to State.
