Steelmen Help Out On the Holidays

Viviana Ferreira and Rachel Hunter

The Polar Express ran by CASA of Will County is a fun filled family event that will happen on the first weekend of December. A $35 fee includes the round-trip train ticket, breakfast or lunch, soft drinks, hot cocoa and cookies as well as all activities. The express departs from Joliet Union Station 50 E. Jefferson Street in Joliet. The Christmas Express started way back in 2008 and still is open today! This event has been going on for seven years now. The express is a fundraiser benefiting abused and neglected kids of Will County. Everyone can make a difference in the community and to a person. On the Christmas express there is breakfast, kids get to visit Santa, and there are activities. For example, everyone can sing holiday carols. The announce on the train says “all aboard, gather everyone for the North Pole”. The announce also reads the book The Polar Express to everyone on the train. The volunteers are a part of students of Joliet. If you volunteer you get 5 hours of community service. As a volunteer you serve breakfast on the train. There are forty three different chances to get community service hours.
