Homecoming Parade

Homecoming Parade

Holly Salazar-Ramirez

The Joliet Central Homecoming Parade, an event where students and families come together and walk the streets to show their Steelmen spirit and support. The parade has been done for years, but had to be canceled last year due to Covid. This year that did not stop the school from going out and walking with pride. Most of the Joliet Central students, new or returning, still enjoyed it as much or even more than the previous parades. One girl on the volleyball team says, “I honestly liked it more this year. I think It was most fun because we just preballed it, and just threw a bunch of candy, it was so much fun.” Felipe Martinez, a senior on the soccer team, goes on to mention, “I feel like it helped the community get together, you feel me? I feel like we were all happy.” There were a few differences this year, the most notable one being the amount of people to attend. He continues, “There were more people in the past, but I feel like people still came out, we got the community out.”  There was also a small change in the parade made by the Poms team, Senior Rachel Dunne brings this change up, “This year we decided that we were going to dance behind the float rather than ride on it, which was different because we wanted to share our skills to the community.” They definitely did an amazing job! Everybody had a great time: ROTC, Cheerleaders, Band, Poms, and many others got to go out to the streets, throw candy and show their pride!
