Speech team is a great way for people to have such a good way of making conversations with each other. yes you may have that right but the questions we are looking forward to would be: what is speech specifically team? Speech Team is an IHSA activity that has 14 performance-oriented events for students to compete against other schools. Events range from dramatic and comedic scenes to original speeches written for special occasions.  Our season begins in late October and runs through February.  Similar to our sports teams, Speech Team competes at IHSA Regionals and Sectionals with the goal of making it to the IHSA State Tournament. Joliet Central’s Speech Team has made State 2 times in the last 6 years and we have accumulated a number of team and individual awards over the last 8 years. How does it help students (College, life skills, etc)? Speech Team serves a number of beneficial purposes.  First, it helps kids with their speaking, writing, and acting skills.  Speech Team also encourages kids to challenge their inhibitions, to push themselves beyond expectations, and to be a team.  Lastly, our Speech Team provides students with an activity that can provide them with great scholarship opportunities for college if they plan to continue their Speech careers beyond high school .Any competitions? Our first tournament is this Saturday, December 4th and we will compete in 6 invitationals prior to our trip to the IHSA Regionals in February.  Students compete for individual awards in each event and the team competes for team awards as well. The pandemic really devastated our Speech Team the last two years and I couldn’t be more excited to be back to “in-person” competitions and to start building another State-bound team for the future. Moral questions we also get what is it primarily for or do? Speech and Debate is a combination of public speaking, acting, and arguing all in one competitive sport. In the Oral Interpretation events competitors take pieces of literature and poetry and present their interpretation of them in a 10-minute scene either by themselves or with a partner. Speaking to acting to newscasting to poetry and prose reading. There are generally three preliminary rounds of competition, and the top-ranking competitors in each event advance to the final round. This can also help students a lot said previously this course will develop and improve public speaking, argumentation, and critical-thinking skills in various communication and debate settings. Students will deliver speeches and participate in various types of in-class debates, mock trials, and forums on current topics. But the real deal about speech team is the benefits of speech and debate classes are plentiful, including improved confidence, written and oral communication skills, and critical thinking skills. These traits and skills will prove useful for both their formal education and their future careers, as well for students having the freedom to discuss topics of interest or help prepare for academic presentations.
