Latino Empowerment Conference

Brandon Perez

The Latino conference is an event held at Joliet Junior College that showcases various opportunities available to students and lets them enhance their leadership skills and social consciousness. The conference began with an opening of the JJC vice president, Roberto C. Valadez, in which he expressed his gratitude to attendees and shared how his previous conference had helped the Latino community. Keynote speaker, Gabe Salazar, was then introduced to the audience. By touching the hearts of many, Salazar reflected on his past experiences with poverty, homelessness, and gang violence. He ended his speech by encouraging everyone to fight for their future regardless of their background or past experiences.

The conference was highly informative for Latinos as it offered them valuable insights into the various opportunities available to them. It also helped them plan their college education and offered motivation to strive for the future they deserve.
