As of right now, the updates about SNAP benefits are being restored after a federal government shutdown that has happened. All November benefits in Illinois were expected to be issued by November 20th, 2025. Although the benefits will be restored, the support from the JTHS staff community will remain here for our steelmen. Stop by 371 for more information about the thrift shop run by Mrs. Gryzb.
Mrs. Gryzb, Mr. Seper, and Mrs. Otoole are very helpful staff here at Joliet Central, so it’s no surprise they went straight to action after they heard about students in need due to the government shutdown. It’s such a good thing to have teachers and administrators who care so deeply about our Steelmen. They intend on continuing the food pantries for as long as they can and not only is the food pantry available, but also the thrift shop Mrs. Gryzb has been running for over a year now!
Teachers wanted to help out students who need extra help during these tough times by offering free meal kits during your lunch/advisory or at the end of the day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Mrs. Gryzb said while interviewing her, “I just think it’s so important to support each other, to show students that they’re cared about and loved and to let them know that we’ll support them, no matter what.”
Mr. Seper stated in Spanish,”Los estudiantes son muy importantes en la escuela, en la comunidad, en mi corazón.”
Mrs. Otoole shared, “Now that I’m at a point in my life that I can give back, I want to make sure I’m giving back as much as possible.” Their kind actions of helping students during these tough times not only helps their families, but it gives people hope that humanity is still alive.
Ultimately, there are three food pantry options that are available for steelmen at Joliet Central. The pantries are available in room 366,381, and 377 On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during your lunch/advisory or at the end of the day! These are resources here to help all steelmen who’re in need!
