Basketball is a very
competitive, good paying sport full of a lot of surprises. This past year the Bulls
made a splash by getting deep into the playoffs. They demonstrated that the
sport is very fun to play. Now, on the other side of the court there stands a women’s
side of the NBA. Chicago has its very own WNBA team, the Chicago Sky. The team
is very electric. Recently a group of Steelmen from JROTC got to present the
colors at the game, including Zack Schmidt, Julio Montenegro, Caitlin Magruder,
and Kaitlyn Bertram. And SFC (RET.) Balanon was overseeing the Color guard as
they got to perform. It was quite a sight to see woman NBA players take the
court and practice dribbling and shooting and defense skills. Many years ago
people would’ve thought I was crazy to say there are woman pro athletes. They
are as electrifying and play at the same level as their male counterparts. The
cadets presented the colors and a wonderful ovation took place as the home team
took the court. The fans were clapping their thunder sticks. The game got
underway at the Allstate Arena. In the first quarter the Washington mystics
scored 17 points, while the Sky the lead with 27 points scored. The second
quarter took a sour turn as the Mystics took a 21-18 lead.so, the sky were
down, in the 3rd quarter needing a rebound from the 2nd. The 3rd quarter was a nail biter
as the Mystics took a 1 point lead going into the 4th quarter. The
sky had only scored one less point than the mystics. They were motivated to
score and win the next quarter. In the 4th quarter things took a
dramatic turn, the sky went on to score 19 points and the Mystics scored only
12 points. The Sky had secured the victory. They had persevered past the odds
to win 80-67. Their record is currently 14-17. Keep an eye on them
