With the start of school comes with one of the most anticipated sports at Joliet Central, boys’ soccer. Boys’ soccer is excited to come to work this year after a disappointing end to last year’s season. Coach Contreras is excited to come work this season, even though he says his team is very young. However, Contreras says that two players in particular Will Delria and Sergio Clavel have helped guide the younger players and have taken a leadership role to the players that are transitioning from the JV level to the Varsity level. Contreras says that Drake Bernhard, Gio Vivas, as well as Delria and Clavel will be key to the team success because as Contreras says “those guys play in the center, so they are the backbone of the team.” Two other players Contreras has been impressed with is Roman Perez and sophomore Guillermo Escobar, because they play hard no matter who they’re matched up with.
Contreras says that a game that is must see is the Naperville North game because they’re one of the best teams in the state, and we’ll be able to evaluate ourselves after that game and see where we’re at. Senior Sergio Clavel says a must see game is the Battle of the Des Plaines River game vs. Joliet West. Clavel says that the game is going to be exciting because it is a big rivalry, he goes on by saying that the game is always like playoff intensity and both teams always get pumped for this game. Contreras added on by saying that the rivalry is big because the kids from West always want to beat them, but until they finally do it Central will always be the kings of soccer in Joliet.
Joliet Central soccer is something that somebody has to attend once in their lives. It’s a great crowd, the announcer Mr. Grimes always makes it seem like you’re watching a soccer game on television with his goal calls, and it’s just an unique experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere. Contreras wanted people to also know that they now have easy access to McDonald’s and it now it won’t be any trouble to get some delicious food and great soccer. Clavel goes on saying “It feels good to be a Steelmen, I love representing our school, and going out playing by heart out for our school.” So if you’re bored and want quality entertainment at a great environment, look no further than Joliet Central soccer.
