As the end of the girls volleyball season nears, the Pink Heals game was an exciting way to draw a crowd. For those who couldn’t be there, the audience turnout was great! The bleachers were near capacity, and if you really think about it, that’s a lot of people for a volleyball game! The crowd was filled with cheering fans from both West and Central, smiles, baked goods, and LOTS of PINK!
Although a big part of Tuesday was the rivalry game between Joliet Central and Joliet West, the overall purpose of the event was to honor and raise money for cancer.
Pink Heals is a non-profit organization that drives pink fire trucks and pink police cars across America spreading around the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” and Pink Heals Movement.
Pink Heals was generous enough to give the Locke family a giant (and I mean giant) check for $7,000 for everything that happened with Addison. For those who don’t know Addison was the athletic director Mr. Locke’s daughter who passed away after a valiant bout with cancer at the age of 7. Addison fought a long hard battle. The thought of Addison has inspired our teams to fight in each and every one of our games. Another person who is in our thoughts is Peg Bryan a very close friend to volleyball at Joliet Central who passed away from breast cancer.
Tuesday October 22, all four teams played great games against West but left us with disappointing losses.
Let’s be honest the most important game of the day was the varsity game. West won with a score of 12 to 25(West) in the first game and 15 to 25(West) in the second game. The whole team fought hard until the end.
“Peg and Addison made the pink heals game into such a big festivity and were in our thoughts” “I think the whole premise of the game with the fundraising as a cause makes the game much more important than just a game of volleyball. It also bring West and Central together.” said coach Bambule when interviewed.
This year our school has raised over $2,000 to donate to the Pink Organization. Don’t forget to think pink! Don’t Forget Addison #D4A
