Shampoo Run

Randy Tran, Repoter

The Shampoo Run was ran by both the Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country team. You might be wondering why we call it the “Shampoo Run”. It’s because the team used to go on a conditioner run before every conference race. A conditioner run is ran to warm your muscles up so you can race without injuries or setbacks during the race. We called it a Shampoo Run because we always use shampoo before we use conditioner when we shower, so it has nothing to do with shampoo.

To continue on, the Shampoo Run is a relay race between everyone on the Cross country team. A boy and a girl are paired up randomly when they choose a card from a deck. Once they do so, they find their match and pair up with each other. The race starts with the boys. They run 1 lap around the bicentennial park and tag their partner when they approach the finish line and so on. The boys run 4 laps total and the girls run 3 laps. The course is a bit rigid with a bunch of bumps, holes and hills. Each lap is about half a mile as the boys and their partners race through to finish. Unfortunately there was more boys than girls that day so some boys had to partner up with each other.

It was a hot day when both teams ran to the bicentennial park. We all get paired up as all the runners come in after their warm up before the relay race. The fastest boys start off so no one gets trampled as the race starts and finishes. Coming in 1st place was Andrea Moreno and Vincente Moreno, 2nd place was Tyler Samuels and Jose Martinez, and 3rd place was Raul Rosendo and Leslie Ulloa. Top 25 get a prize of their choice that is provided by Coach Cherry. Top 3 get a Powerade as an additional reward.
