Super Bowl 54 Preview

Jalen Williams, Reporter

The Super Bowl started 54 years ago as a championship game but it has evolved into a worldwide event where around 100 million people tune in every year. This year’s Super Bowl will be no different as it features an attractive matchup of the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers. With last year’s MVP Patrick Mahomes leading the Chiefs top offense and rookie sensation Nick Bosa leading the 49ers top defense it will be a classic offense vs. defense matchup which history has taught us normally favors the defense. The Super Bowl will kick off this Sunday, February 2 at 5:30 PM. The game is usually the most watched television show in America every year and this year’s game will be called by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on Fox. This year’s version of the “big game”Super Bowl 54 is expected to be close as neither team is expected to have a huge edge in talent, coaching, or with injury concerns. The Halftime performers this year are Jennifer Lopez and Shakira which should keep viewers and fans tuned in while the teams take a break and make adjustments. A win would be the 49ers 6th Super Bowl which would tie the Patriots and Steelers for the most Super Bowls in NFL history. As for the Chiefs, this is only their 3rd trip ever to the Super Bowl and their first appearance since they won their only Lombardi trophy 50 years ago.  The Chiefs come into this game extremely confident after coming back from early double digit deficits in their two playoff games. For the Chiefs to win this game they might want to follow a different script as those previous two victories as the 49ers dominant defense might be tough to mount a comeback against if they get up big early. As for this reporter’s pick in the game, I’m going with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to win a thriller 24-20.
