Joliet Central’s Varsity boys soccer team played against Joliet West on September 23rd, 2021. The bleachers were full of supporters from both schools and were ready to renew the cross-town rivalry. Every fan and player were ready to watch a great game commence. Both teams started the game off by getting every player involved to get the players settled in. In the first half, both West and Central had multiple chances to score but neither could break the deadlock. The energy of the crowd was rejuvenated with the music during halftime. This energy was carried into the second half, which consisted of the same opportunities and the same support from the fans. After nearly 80 minutes without a goal, West made one last push with 45 seconds left. Their offense sliced through Central’s defense. With 12 seconds left in the game, West shot the ball, which then bounced off the left post and in the net. Every Central player and Central fan were filled with anguish while the West fans and players were filled with joy and excitement. The Steelman played their best and held off West for as long as possible. Unfortunately losing in the last seconds with the final score being West 1 and Central 0.
