The “Snow-pocalypse”

Snow Day PhotoTo some people, winter is the best time of the year. To others, (and most likely the school faculty this year) they’re done with winter and ready get back to more of a regular schedule. With classes cancelled three days already this year, and more subzero temperatures surely in our future, we’re definitely in need of a way to make up for lost time. The question is one everyone’s mind: how are we going to account for these snow days?

As far as solutions go, I’ve come up with a few options of my own, and some are more favorable than others. A few of these are as follows:

In terms of practicality, we could simply extend our school year into the summer, whatever number of days that we miss this summer. At this rate, however, the soonest we’ll be getting out feels like it’ll be sometime around the end of June.

Another option would be to cut back on or eliminate spring break altogether. Sometimes cooler temperatures last through break, and for all those who plan a few day vacation to somewhere with a more appealing temperature and the option to go outside sans parka, why travel when you could just carry on with school and piles of homework?

Lastly, for my most radical and person favorite idea, why not just make up our school days on the weekend? Saturday school seems like it’s becoming even more of a distinct possibility with every day that we get off. In fact, while we’re at it, why don’t we just attend school on Sunday? Who even needs a break? We mind as well just have year-round schooling, with our breaks being the millions of below zero days we’ll sure accumulate as we attend school until the end of time.

In all seriousness, no one knows for sure at this moment how exactly we’ll make up for this lost time. If we don’t get more snow days, this could just wind up with us having a few more days of school cutting into our summer. On the other hand, if we get a lot more time off, a more creative solution may have to ensue, and may tamper with the graduation date. For now, just do what I do and comfort yourself with the thought that summer will come eventually- it’s only about four months away!
