Paityn Wilkinson, Managing Editor

As managing editor, I’ve faced a variety of challenges and experiences. Taking on a leadership role has always been an aspect of who I am as an individual, something I’ve been used to when it comes to school and working together. However, interacting with people on a more informative and educational level comes with obstacles and ultimately provides new outlooks on learning. When I was a freshman writing for journalism, I enjoyed the class and quietly worked on other courses I had worked for, never expecting to be part of the team in the back room of the class. When I was pulled back and recruited, I was surprised at the offer but gratefully took it, as I saw an opportunity to get involved more with Joliet Central. Nearly two years later, I’m now a managing editor, and my enjoyment of journalism hasn’t faded. Even though the job can be tedious, sometimes even stressful, I still take the class as a learning experience that I still learn about to this day. This class has taught me throughout the years that you can’t always get your way and sometimes have to accept things for how they are. By growing and learning through mistakes, you can better yourself as maturity kicks in when approaching your adult years. This lesson is something I now apply to my everyday life as I go through my junior year of high school with a growth mindset and the hope to overshadow mistakes made with the positive progress I’ve been making.
